Day 513 A Cats life

Cats sure do have it made and don't they know it! Other than not being allowed on tabletops or counters my cat has the run of the house, even sleeping on top of clean towels is viewed as charming. Pep comes and goes as she pleases, enjoys nights out with no curfew, returning only when she sees fit. Her days are filled with lounging in front of the fire in the winter, basking in the sunshine and sleeping anywhere she decides. Her only task is hunting and holy cow is she a skilled predator. She brings us mice, birds, rabbits, dropping the remains on our backdoor step with pride. Both Tim and I are quick to jump up if she's waiting to come inside and although begrudgingly we get up in the middle of the night to let her outside when she wants to go. Tim will say I'm bossy but the real boss of the house is our little furry friend, who rules quietly but confidently. She's a fickle little friend and gives her affections sparingly. When friends were visiting one wanted nothing more than for Pep to sit on her lap and true to cat form, Pep refused. We laughed as Pep went from person to person, allowing everyone to pet her and jumping up on each person for added attention, all the while ignoring the one friend who sought her attention the most. She continued to try and coax her to her, even going so far as to grab the cat treats to present offerings. It seems the more you want a cats attention the harder it becomes to get it. Playing hard to get is their game and cats are masters at it. Maybe this is why we're so appealing while we sleep, a time when Pep seems to want nothing more than our undivided attention, how dare we ignore her and sleep. I'm sure we could all learn a lot from cats, how to relax more, bask in the sun whenever possible, be selective of who we deem worthy of our attentions and trust completely the few who care for us. Other than the mice, rabbits and bird kills, it sure doesn't sound too bad. Let's all try to take a moment today to bask in the sunshine, feel the warmth of a fire, close our eyes trusting the world around us will care for us and enjoy a moment or two of pure contentment. Something to strive for...a cats life.
