Day 700 Foggy Beach Days

The sun may have struggled to break through the fog, but I sat, patiently giving it all the time it needed. The thick fog made it close to impossible to see the surfers and swimmers alike, not making the lifeguards job an easy one. The cloudy beach was the only place to be on such an oppressively hot day. All my usual prep for the week ahead on Sunday forgotten as I sat, watching clouds go by, soaking in the occasional sunshine and appreciating every ocean breeze that came my way. Unfortunately, the water was filled with seaweed so only those brave enough to wade through the muck could enjoy a swim. I typically don't mind seaweed but only made it out only to my knees before turning back. My beach club had live music playing and I had unwittingly set up right in front of the speakers, a good thing at times but made for minimal conversation. It really is amazing how much gets packed for a day at the beach, the equivalent of weeks worth of travel bags. I had bags with beach blankets, towels, lotion etc. then bags with snacks, chips, cookies, crackers, nuts etc... then a cooler filled with enough food for a family of five to survive for a week. Then there's chairs, umbrellas, side tables - holy cow, it's no wonder once I am parked in my spot I never want to leave!! Tim on the other hand packs himself along with a small cooler of beer and is ready to go. Of course, once at the beach he asks if I have sunscreen, something to eat, a towel... counting on me to have it all. I had packed an extra cooler containing dinner, so there was no need to leave the beach until sunset. Once home there's always the daunting task of unpacking it all, laundry and jumping into the shower as quickly as possible, although I dropped a few bags to be dealt with another day. Plans were made for another dinner at the beach, this time I suggested I pick something up, ready made! Even with all the work involved, there's not much that beats a day at the beach....even in the fog.
