Still hiding… but I was able to snap a quick photo since everyone has wanted to see Gypsy. Of course, this crazy cat picked the worst, dirtiest spot in my entire house to hide, behind my hot water heater! As you can see, I managed to get a furry self-warming mat under her, and thankfully she likes it, which makes us both feel better.
I’m sure she’ll come out someday, once she trusts us enough to venture out into the rest of the house. She’s a beautiful cat, just a scaredy-cat, that’s all. I’ve got her diffuser pumping out calming vibes, bought her calming cat treats (who knew?), and I’m doing just about everything I can to let her know she’s safe. I even created an eight-week “what to expect” plan to share with Tim, who is skeptical she’ll ever come out of hiding.
As for me, I opted for a little hiding of my own. I turned down a party, came home, climbed into bed, and snuggled under two (yes, two) weighted blankets. Tim doesn’t want the blankets anywhere near him, but I love the comfort. Even though it’s hard to roll over with all that weight, I wouldn’t trade it. Friday nights are tough, the body exhales after a long week and slowly fuels up for the weekend. I even skipped dinner, wanting nothing more than to hide, rest, and recoup.
Told ya, the cat and I are two peas in a pod, both . And although she hasn’t come out at all yet, I still love the energy she brings to a house. It’s just not a home without a little feline friend (she just doesn’t know yet that she’s my friend yet).
So for now, it’s calming treats, warm mats, and patience for her—and weighted blankets and early bedtimes for me. We’ll both emerge when we’re ready. Until then, we're both content hiding, her on her furry mat, me under weighted blankets.
