So much fun celebrating National Mahjong Day with friends! I sent out a text inviting a few tables of players over for a lively night of gaming to mark the occasion, and even had a donut cake made. Who knew champagne paired so well with donuts?

My friends all arrived with delicious appetizers to share, although we were far more focused on the game than the food. Next time, I may break things up with a social hour before gaming so we can actually enjoy all the treats. With players of all skill levels, it was great to see well-matched tables, everyone felt challenged, and no one was in over their head or slowed down by beginners. My friends happily go wherever I assign them, which makes hosting so much easier.

I also love that our group spans all ages, from 25 to 85, all playing together...as life should always be. It was such a fun night that it almost felt like the weekend...almost. Clean up on a weekday is far more important so I made it all happen. After everyone left I set to work, the dishes loaded into the dishwasher, surfaces wiped down, and only a few signs of the evening lingering as reminders of the fun we had.

Back to the donut cake… I had special-ordered it and went early in the morning to prepay so my mom could pick it up. I told her she could drop it off at my house since Tim would be home. Around noon, I called to see if he had seen her, he hadn’t, but there was a donut cake on the kitchen table, so she must have let herself in. I knew she would have rung the bell, so I was a bit confused that he hadn’t heard her… until he told me he’d been in the basement family room, singing karaoke with the music blasting....and wearing nothing but his boxers. Now I can’t help but wonder if my mom peeked downstairs to say hello or not. If she did, she definitely got more than she bargained for!

I laughed and told this story to my friends, and one of them, who’s never even met Tim, said it just proved I’m married to my perfect partner. Honestly… she’s not wrong.

How lucky I am to have such a wonderful circle of friends and a husband that keeps me entertained? I love a home filled with laughter, good games, and memorable moments....and big donuts. I’m already looking forward to the next gathering.
