Day 674 My Florida Gal

My beautiful Florida friend finally traveled to RI for a visit. Dawn hates to leave Florida, her dogs, cat, birds and routine, so anytime she breaks free, I drop everything to spend time with her. We had dinner at Twin Oaks with her sister, brother, nephews and their wives. Twin Oaks is another story all together, established in 1933 and growing into the largest independent operation in RI, with seating now up to 650, it's a RI landmark!! I'm not sure they've changed the decor since the sixties or seventies, old school Italian vibe but the food is delicious. Dawns nephew and I shared a Tomahawk steak, always a favorite of mine and his first time trying one, he's now hooked. After dozens of appetizers and delicious meals we were onto dessert. As I scanned the dessert menu Dawn laughed, knowing I was looking for Spumoni and to my delight, I found it! I don't understand why so many Italian restaurants don't offer it, fail on their part. If you're not familiar with spumoni, it's a molded gelato made with different colors and flavors with cherries and pistachios, covered with claret sauce (if done right). Not offering spumoni after an authentic Italian meal offends me as much as not knowing to put three coffee beans in a chocolate martini or serving caviar with a metal spoon...once you know..you know. So with all Twin Oaks outdated decor, they were forgiven after offering and serving up the best spumoni I've had in ages. I'm really not half as picky as I sound....or maybe I am? I'm certainly picky when it comes to friends, choosing to surround myself with the most amazing humans I can find. I was lucky to find Dawn at the age of eleven...thank you young Rachel for being so smart at such an early age! Growing old with childhood friends is one of life's greatest gifts, they are the comfort food of friendship. When Dawn and I get together it's as if we're kids again, silly fun and always an adventure.
