Day 707 Beach Days & Bocce
I arrived at the beach at 9:30am and didn't pack up to leave until 6:30pm...now that's what I call a great day! The sun was shining, water warm, minimal seaweed, the shoreline was a bit rocky but that just toughens me up a bit. I sat with friends and family, swam and even played in the Bocce tournament. My team won the first game, with no help from me but lost our second game. I didn't play horribly, just not well so I was at least able to report to Tim that I didn't embarrass our family name. The entire beach club seemed to be on site, eager for the big tournament and desperate for a bit of relief from the oppressive heat. My daughter joined me for the day, a rare treat for her to sneak away from my grandsons sports practices and games. At one point I looked over to see her, my sister in law and brother in law all engrossed in their books, I'm sure I interrupted their stories with my chatter more than once, but you can't sit next to me and not expect to chat. Beach chatter is always light, nonsensical topics to keep the low key vibe in tact. Avoiding political talk is always a good rule of thumb, although with an attempt on the former presidents life it's on the minds of everyone. Whatever side you lean towards politically, I'd hope we all agree that murdering a political rival is not the direction we'd like to see our country move towards. Growing up I remember being taught never to ask someone their religious or political views, private topics. Somehow we now wear our views on our sleeves, social media or whatever platform that will hear our point of view, usually to tell the opposing thinkers how wrong they are. If someone likes a candidate that you disagree with on either side, they are considered stupid....so much for respecting each others rights to their own opinions. I have a feeling with the election right around the corner the tensions will only increase, hopefully without any more murder attempts. It's no wonder I enjoy a quiet beach day so much, where we chat about seaweed, the horrors of litter on the beach and eat pizza chips as if they have no calories. Sun up to sun down, a day at the beach recharges my battery, although I hate to see Monday sneak up on me so fast!
