Day 718 21st Century Hieroglyphics

Showing off my new Tracey Porter tray stand. I'm not exactly sure what it was meant for, cake, desserts or my personal choice, beautiful cards received in the mail. It's not too often we open our mail boxes to see anything but bills or junk mail. Gone are the days of writing letters, catching up by snail mail. It's nice to see a brightly colored envelope with what we know contains a card of some sort, with nothing but nice messages coming our way. I use to be in the habit of writing out a card and sending it to a friend, each and every time I sat down to pay a bill, a habit I should get back to. I love the idea of sending messages to friends for no specific reason, a silly card or handwritten note.  With cell phones now we can text at any hour of the day or night, message people on social media or in a pinch actually call for a voice conversation. Kids today will never find an old shoe box filled with notes from friends, love notes from grade school or silly drawings from friends. I still have a tiny box filled with handwritten treasures from my childhood, of no significance other than they make me smile. As I arrived home and robotically grabbed my mail, I walked into the house, stopping in my tracks to quickly rip open the only piece of mail  of any interest. Delighted, I found a pretty card with a sweet message and imagined the writer sitting down, pen in hand, thinking of me as she wrote it, stamping it and mailing it all for me...sure beats a text. I wonder if in the years to come cards will even exist, already starting to be replaced with e-cards we could see the demise of handwritten communication in our lifetime. Letters and cards are  trending on a path to be a lost art, the hieroglyphics of the 21st century, unless we take it into our own hands (pun intended). I'll do my part, write a few cards out today, address, stamp and mail them out...oh dear does that make it sound like a lot of work! The rewards in life are typically relate to the amount of work put in to any task, sending a text = little work and I'm sure never changed someone's day. Mailing a letter requires effort, planning and is guaranteed to put a smile on someone's face. My card was quickly placed prominently in the center of my dining room table, on top of my beautiful new stand and will give me a smile each and every time I pass by it....take that texts! I knew when I saw this stand that it would be simply perfect for something.... I just had to check my mailbox! I also appreciate the coloring of the card matches the handprinted flowers in my stand, as well as being my favorite color, the devil (or delight) is always in the details.
