Day 814 My Melissa
This photo is of one of my all time favorite views in all of RI, from Melissa's parents house. Growing up, there were cows roaming the field that would occasionally come right up to the fence line. Not sure what happened to all the cows, but thankfully, the view has remained the same for all of these years. Dirt roads, cow fields, wire fences with small wooden posts and autumn leaves in the backdrop...perfection. Melissa's childhood house is exactly as it always has been, isn't it nice when some things don't change! As kids we would run around the front yard, cross the tiny dirt road to see the cows and whatever else we could do to keep ourselves busy while our moms drank their wine. Although her mom died a few years ago, she is omnipresent within her home, her decorating touches still speaking for her. Marcia had style, a keen eye for art, decorating, fashion and putting items together for a unique and super cool vibe. It's strange to visit and see Missy's dad without her mom, but he looks great and thankfully has lots of hobbies to keep him busy and happy. It almost makes me envious of folks that enjoy gardening....almost. Some things change quickly and become distant memories while others seem to stand still in time, unchanged like a snapshot. Each time I visit Missy's homestead, I stand looking out onto the field, feeling as if I'm five years old, ten, thirty or fifty, happy this little slice of the world is as it should be. It's my Melissa's Birthday on the 30th, sneaking it in just before Halloween. I sure am glad our friendship has withstood the tests of time as well as her front yard landscape. Like the cow field, we've survived growth, seasons, tears like rain, happiness and sunshine and here we are...In my minds eye I can see us standing on her front lawn, gazing at the cows as children, blessed to still have her standing by my side...She's the Toto to my Dorothy forever.
