Day 981 Mid-Week

My birthday tulips, along with a little fluffy chick, have added a touch of spring to my kitchen. Outside, it’s still struggling to warm up—although I know brighter, warmer days are on the way. April weather is such a tease: it can rain for days, and when the sun finally breaks through, it tricks you into thinking it’s warm. But then you step outside and are hit with a cold wind and chilly temperatures that make you want to run right back in.

From the cozy warmth of my house, I convinced myself I wouldn’t need a jacket. The sun was shining so brightly—it just had to be warm. Boy, was I wrong! Note to self: wear the coat, even when you think you won’t need it.

After being cold all day, I suggested to Tim that he take me out to dinner, and he happily agreed. We walked into Mariner Grille to find the place absolutely packed—with just about everyone we knew! After fifteen minutes of saying hello to familiar faces, we finally sat down to a delicious dinner, continuing to chat as more friends arrived.

Even better, one of our friends knows someone who can finally do our brick patio—finally! I’ll be reaching out to him today, and hopefully we’ll be able to complete it this spring.

Later, we found ourselves laughing with another friend, as Tim jokingly complained about still having to use postage stamps. “Shouldn’t there be a better way in 2025?” he asked. I defended our postal service, and threw in a fun factoid to prove their progress, back in the day, you could actually mail children, although there was a fifty pound limit..imagine that?  Neither of them had ever heard such a thing and I'm not sure they believed me—apparently, this little nugget of history isn’t as well-known as I thought! I quickly Googled it and showed them photos of kids being “mailed” to their grandparents. Turns out, history really is stranger than fiction.

All in all, a midweek date night turned out to be exactly what the doctor ordered on a cold April evening—good food, warm company, and a few unexpected laughs.
