Day 1003 Virginia

I landed safely in Richmond, Virginia, after a quick flight of just under an hour and a half. It was my first time flying with Breeze Airways and my first time landing in Richmond. The direct flight with Breeze was too convenient and inexpensive to pass up. I suspect they count on passengers paying extra for upgraded seats, carry-on bags, or luggage—but not me! My youngest son and I each happily packed just one personal item: a small backpack for him and a fancy Coach bag for me. Both were small but spacious enough for a few changes of clothes. We accepted the seats assigned to us and were perfectly content sitting together in row 13—me in the middle seat and him by the window. With the direct flight bringing us within a half-hour of my oldest son’s house, I’m definitely planning to take this route more often.

My son recently moved to a new area of Virginia, so it was high time I checked out his new digs—and what a great place it is! His new home, nestled between Richmond and Williamsburg, is absolutely stunning, and so much more in line with his vibe than the city life he’s been living for the past several years. After a quick house tour, we enjoyed a fabulous dinner of rib-eye steaks, sweet potatoes, and broccoli (and yes, another birthday cake for me). Then, it was time for a round of Ticket to Ride. I’d sent him the board game a couple of weeks ago as a thank-you gift for being such a great host, and though he teased me for “putting the cart before the horse” by sending it early, I figured it was a safe bet. Luckily, I’d also gifted the game to my youngest son a few weeks ago just because—I love him—so he was able to explain the rules and teach us how to play. I’d never played before, but I’d heard it was super fun—and sure enough, we all loved it!

Here I am, sixty years old, learning new games, flying new airlines, and exploring new places. Looks like this old dog can still learn a new trick or two!
