Day 1005 The War Room
Games, Walks, and Ice Cream… Then More Games
We’re having so much fun together—relaxing, doing whatever we want, eating, playing, and walking endlessly. Genetics clearly run deep when your son says, “Hey, let’s go for a walk and crank out 10,000 steps after dinner.”
We did check off a couple of touristy stops in the morning, visiting the local farmers market and a large antique mall. But before long, we all voted to head back to my son’s house to cook up some food and hang out. Only leaving the house for walks and to get ice cream in town at a super cute ice cream shop with a pen full of goats and a field filled with games behind it…. Rural Virginia is pretty darn nice!
We played several rounds of bocce—a game I enjoy even if my skills are questionable. Not that it mattered; the sun was shining, and we were laughing the whole time.
Ticket to Ride was another story altogether. The stakes were high, strategies carefully planned, and several intense rounds unfolded as my boys battled for first place. We also spent hours playing Booty Dice—it might sound silly, but it’s surprisingly fun and just cutthroat enough to keep us on our toes.
I’ve been keeping an eye on my eagles, too. The eaglets are huge now and clearly getting ready to fly. They make a beautiful screen saver in the backdrop of all of our game play.
Chad’s house is perfectly set up for fun, with a dedicated game room and a round table I’ve dubbed “the war room.” The only thing he’s missing is Parcheesi. Surprisingly, even Walmart didn’t have it when we stopped by to pick one up. Who knew it had fallen out of mainstream favor? At least now I know what to bring on my next visit!
I’m so thankful he’s just a quick flight away, and I’m already looking forward to more visits. Although once summer hits, it’s his turn to come to Rhode Island—the best place to be when the weather warms up.
With Mother’s Day ahead, I couldn’t feel more grateful. Spending time with my boys is the greatest gift, and these shared moments are something I’ll always cherish..and hopefully they will too! Here's to more games, more laughter, and more memories in the making.
