Day 1008 Walks, Weeds & Dinner

I love this time of year—coming home and still having enough daylight for a walk. The dark days of winter are now tucked away in our memories, with only warmer days and sunshine ahead.

Melissa and Erica met me at my house right after work for a walk along our usual bike path route. To our delight, the goats happened to be out grazing along the path, and we all enjoyed watching them carry on as if they owned the world.

Toward the end of our walk, I picked a handful of knotweed to bring home for my chickens. The invasive weed is a nemesis to most gardeners and grows wild along the bike path, but since my girls love it, I don’t mind it so much. Free food for the flock is always welcome. I laughed, knowing I must have looked like a crazy lady walking down the street with a handful of weeds—but the joke’s on them. I care zero percent what the world thinks… kind of like the goats.

After our walk, I quickly changed my shoes and headed over to my mom’s to pick up her and my sister for dinner—Mariner Grille, of course—and it was as delicious as always. By the time I made it back home, with a burger to go for Tim, there was only time for a quick chat before heading to bed.

If we could have a few hours of daylight after work year-round, it would change everything. It’s tough to stay motivated when it’s cold and dark.

But for now, I’m soaking up every sun-filled evening I can. These small, ordinary moments feel like the heart of something much —peace, connection, and the simple joy of being outside.
