Day 1009 Curveballs
Looking through some of my fabulous photos from a recent weekend in Virginia, I found a few cool shots of flowers. I was so impressed to see the irises blooming and couldn’t resist stopping to admire their beauty. I realize this particular photo is mostly out of focus, with only the very top bloom sharp — and for some crazy reason, that makes me love it even more.
For someone who’s not a gardener, I sure do enjoy looking at beautiful flowers. Back home, we’ve got some blooms as well, though it seems we are a few weeks behind Virginia. I picked up a few hanging flower baskets — instant beauty with zero effort. With all the rain we’ve been getting, watering hasn’t been an issue. There’s always a silver lining!
It’s a good thing I enjoy Rhode Island so much, especially with any thoughts of a winter getaway slipping away. And what are the chances that both Tim and I would end up needing the same dental work — one tooth out, one implant each. I’m still stunned that dental insurance doesn’t cover implants at all. What the heck? They consider it cosmetic — as if a missing tooth is reasonable!
But beyond aesthetics, losing a tooth means your other teeth start to shift, and before you know it, your bite is a mess. So here we are, doing our best to avoid the toothless life and forking over thousands for a single replacement. If I ever thought I’d get implants, I certainly didn’t think they’d be for teeth!
I’ve always been proud to say I’ve got all my original parts — but soon that statement will need a little asterisk. Next week I start the process, with the extraction scheduled for Monday. Who knows how long until the implant is in place and fooling the world (and my other teeth) into thinking everything’s fine — all for the grand total of just under $5,000. Now that’s an expensive smile.
Here’s to blooming flowers, rainy days, and holding onto our teeth — one implant at a time. Life sure knows how to throw us curveballs...here's to dodging, weaving and continuing the fight against a toothless world.
