Day 1020 Ice Cream Dreams

In an effort to rectify the ongoing search for peach ice cream, I figured I'd give making my own a try… yes, Tim is spoiled! Give me a scoop of black raspberry, chocolate chip, or vanilla any day and I’m a happy gal. Tim, on the other hand, is set on his beloved peach dairy delicacy.

I’ve never made ice cream before, but when I unwrapped my new ice cream maker the other morning, excited to dive in, I grabbed the instructions as I unboxed the machine. The very first step? Freeze the inner bowl for 6–8 hours. Wishing I had read that the night before, I was momentarily deflated—but not deterred. It just delayed me by a day.

Once the bowl was frozen and ready, I gathered my ingredients: frozen peaches, heavy cream, sugar, a bit of milk, and a splash of vanilla. To my surprise, once everything was combined, the machine did all the mixing. Within half an hour, the ice cream was ready!

Proud and excited to share my first batch, I brought Tim a spoonful for the official taste test. His response? Underwhelming at best: “Tastes like vanilla ice cream with peaches in it.” What?! He’s not one to hand out compliments freely… maybe the peaches needed to be mixed in earlier? Maybe I didn’t use enough? I’m not sure where I went wrong, but I’ll give it another try—once he finishes this batch. Or maybe I’ll make a few flavors for myself first, perfect my technique, and then tackle the elusive peach delight again.

I bet if we lived in Georgia, peach ice cream would be much easier to find, and I wouldn’t need to moonlight as a part-time ice cream maker.

At the end of the day, the moral of the story is clear: Tim is definitely spoiled—but he's worth it. And who knows? By the end of summer, I just might become the queen of homemade ice cream.
