Day 997 Impromptu Night Out
After a long week, it was such a treat to get a last-minute dinner invite. Both Tim and I had arrived home earlier than usual, which gave us time to tackle a few chores, relax, and then drive north past the tower to meet up with Ray and Alida. You might notice the resemblance in the bookend brothers pictured in the photo...no wonder people mistake Tim for Ray and vice versa.
We met in East Greenwich at the Firemen's Club for a delicious meal with a spectacular view of EG Harbor. As we dined through sunset, I could almost feel summer creeping up on us, even though the spring chill is still hanging in the air. The sky put on a show, casting golden reflections across the water but we were too busy chatting and catching up to give the fabulous view proper attention.
It's always fun to have an impromptu night out—some of the best times happen when there are no expectations. Ray and Alida had just returned from a few weeks in Key West, and after seeing the sunshine still lingering on their faces, Tim and I are seriously considering joining them next year if they go again. We love Key West but haven’t been back since our last trip, which was at least ten years ago!
Once Rhode Island weather finally warms up, though, we’ll probably want to stay put. The tourists will start rolling into town, and we’ll enjoy our own little slice of paradise: beach days, bare feet, sunsets on the deck, cookouts, and long, laughter-filled evenings with friends. Home really is where we want to be in the summertime.
Nights like these remind me how lucky we are to live where we do—and how important it is to slow down, say yes to last-minute plans, and soak in the moments that make life feel full. As the days grow longer and the promise of summer lingers just ahead, I’m looking forward to more spontaneous dinners, familiar faces, and the simple joys of being home
