Day 1056 Imperfect perfection.
A beautiful day at the beach turned into a foggy afternoon, but any day at the beach is a good one. We sat and watched the fog roll in, as if pulling a sheet up over our blue skies. The views of Block Island faded from sight within minutes. Once the fog arrived, the warmth of the sunshine disappeared, and I slipped on a sweatshirt to enjoy the beach without the chill in the air.
Since the fog caused most people to leave quickly, it may have been a blessing in disguise—we had the beach to ourselves through dinnertime. I had smartly packed burgers, hot dogs, and other dinner treats to grill. When my daughter and her crew joined us, it turned into a beachside party.
We left before the sun went down, which is unusually early for me, but we were all tired and ready for showers. Of course, with company in the house, it wasn't the best timing for my shower drain to break. The tub started filling with water as we washed. Tim to the rescue—he jumped into action and fixed the drain at top speed. He may get a bad rap most of the time, but when it comes to fixing things, he's pretty darn good.
It was certainly a treat to have a beach day on a Monday—must be what teachers feel like every summer. I plan to make the most of my week off and relish every lazy morning, beach day, and bedtime without tomorrow’s tasks clogging up my brain. My guess is we’ll get a few board games in as well, and maybe even try out a new yard game or two.
There’s something magical about a day that feels unhurried, even when things go sideways. Here’s to more moments like this—unexpected, imperfect, and absolutely perfect in their own way. Don't you just love imperfect perfection?
