Day 1068 Magical Days

Nothing was going to sway me from spending the entire day and night at the beach. As I sat on my beach chair, feeling the light drizzle of rain, I just knew the sky would clear—it felt more like a refreshing mist gifted by Mother Nature. We all threw on our sweatshirts but stayed in our spots; let's face it, sitting by the ocean with friends is never a bad idea!

Eager for a beach walk, I invited my brother-in-law to join me—knowing he was the only other person in our group who would be game to go. He and I walked all the way from Green Hill Beach to the Charlestown Breachway, a good 4.5 miles, though since I’m telling the story, we’ll round up and call it a five-mile walk. Tim arrived at the beach later to find me missing and began to wonder if we were ever coming back.

As we strolled along, we came across a horseshoe crab that had washed up on shore. We stopped to study the prehistoric creature—it’s amazing what lives in the ocean. We stopped to watch the people fishing off the jetty and watched the speed of the tide come in from the inlet before heading back.

We would have stayed on the beach all night, but the promise of dinner finally motivated us to move. We quickly showered, changed, and headed to Galilee Beach Club. We sat inside the elegant restaurant and enjoyed delicious meals, then made our way outside to the tiki bar for an after-dinner cocktail, soaking in the misty, foggy evening air and watching the Block Island Ferry boats come and go.

The bar was unusually quiet for a Saturday night, but we enjoyed having the space to ourselves. Since it wasn’t too busy, the awesome bartender, Jess, even had time to take a photo of our group. The staff at GBC work long hours, yet they always seem cheerful and greet you with a smile—it's one of the things that makes the place feel so welcoming.

There’s something magical about days like this—unhurried, full of laughter, and soaked in sea air. As we wrapped up the night, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the beauty of simple moments shared with people you love.
