Day 1072 Beach Moochers
After a late night dancing in the sand, I wasn’t exactly eager to head out for my morning walk with Missy—but I dragged myself outside anyway, and I’m so glad I did! It was a beautiful morning—cool enough for a long-sleeve shirt but sunny and bright. I will never take for granted the beautiful bike path so conveniently close to my house. We can walk for miles along the picturesque trail, soaking in nature’s beauty. Missy and I are usually home before Tim even wakes up; he may never even realize I was gone.
Once home, I scurried around packing beach bags with snacks, towels, and enough supplies to last the entire day. My mom and I set off for the beach—Tim still fast asleep. Mornings at the beach are my favorite time of day: we had the sand all to ourselves, watched the birds enjoy their morning feast of fish, and marveled at a perfectly clear sky with just one funny little cloud hanging right over Block Island.
My sister and brother-in-law joined us, and before long, I snuggled under their umbrella and drifted off to sleep to the soothing sounds of the ocean. When I woke up, my mom had gone home, Tim had arrived, and I emerged ready for more sunshine.
If I had to rate the day, I’d give it a ten out of ten—pure perfection. No wonder we didn’t budge! Friends stopped by with hot dogs for lunch, then later, burgers were delivered. Carole and Ray brought pizza, and like a couple of happy beach moochers, we had no reason to move—we were fed all day! We ended the evening sitting with Carole and Ray, watching the sky turn brilliant shades of pink and orange as the sun set, eventually dragging ourselves up to the deck to visit Dave and Donna before finally heading home around 9 p.m.
From sunrise to sunset, we soaked in the glorious gifts of Mother Nature, surrounded by friends. Don’t mind if I do!
With household chores on hold (probably until October), I’m embracing every single minute of this magical summer season.
