Day 1092 Grounding

I’m just not sure how anyone could pass up a day at the beach. Our New England summer season is short, but each perfect beach day reminds me why I love Rhode Island so much!

I woke up and threw on my bathing suit so quickly that I didn’t even realize I’d put the bottoms on inside out—Tim clued me in later in the day. I packed a few snacks, drinks, towels, and other whatnots, and was off to the beach for the day.

The warm sand under my feet instantly gave me a sense of peace—oh, how I love being barefoot! I sat with Donna and casually mentioned “grounding” to her, since I truly believe it’s one of the reasons we feel so renewed after a day at the beach. She had never heard of it before, so I tried my best to explain. I told her it’s some of my “hippie mojo,” but there’s actually something to it.

Grounding is the practice of being barefoot and connecting our bodies to the earth—whether it’s grass, sand, or soil. The theory is that it transfers the earth’s natural electrical charge into our bodies, and the benefits are all good. So why not kick off your shoes and connect with Mother Earth? We all feel rejuvenated by the beach, so maybe there’s something to my mystical hippie mojo after all.

As John Muir once said, “And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.” I’d just swap in “beach” for “forest” and say the message still holds true.

Grounding is definitely easier to practice during the summer months. Walking barefoot outside in the winter takes a little more dedication! But if you're feeling down, hurting, or just need a little boost, it’s worth a try....and worth reading up on!

I may not be great at trivia, but I’ve sure accumulated some odd bits of knowledge over the years. I seem to have a wealth of unique knowledge that rarely comes into play!!
