Day 1103 Wedded Bliss

Celebrating Four Years of Wedded Bliss

We celebrated four years of wedded bliss with a day off, breakfast out, and—of course—a trip to the beach. Tim and I have vowed to take a day off each anniversary to celebrate each other. We don’t do big gifts (honestly, no gifts needed), just time together.

This was actually the eve of our anniversary, since I made plans to attend the theatre with my mother on the actual date. But we’ll be sure to wine and dine each other on the day itself—I’ll be home in time for an evening celebration.

We took a quick walk down the beach, where we were pelted by high winds while watching the incredibly big surf, thanks to a hurricane offshore. Funnily enough, a hurricane rolled in the night we were married, so it only makes sense to have hurricane winds on our anniversary too.

More time together—that’s really all we ask for. When you marry later in life, you profoundly appreciate each year you get together and recognize just how fleeting time is.

Tim and I were both married before. We had our kids, raised our families, then divorced—and here we are. Ironically, we went to school together and have known each other for ages. He was two grades ahead of me and had a crush on me, foolishly, I didn’t see him as someone to date at the time. What??

But life unfolds as it’s meant to, and I wouldn’t change a thing. All the twists and turns brought us to where we are now—blessed with amazing kids, grandkids, and an abundance of life stories.

Maybe it’s only at this stage in life that we can truly appreciate each other—and just how good we have it.

We opted out of a fancy restaurant, got takeout, watched a movie, and were both pleased as punch with our simple day together.

In the end, it’s not about grand gestures. It’s about choosing each other, again and again, every day, every year. Here's to many more quiet, joyful anniversaries ahead.

“I swear I couldn’t love you more than I do right now, and yet I know I will tomorrow.”Leo Christopher
