Day 1106 Jackpot

Radio Contest Morning

This morning was all about the radio contest—sadly, I didn’t win. But Tim woke up early to join me and was amazed at the crowd. At least 140 people showed up for their chance to win a brand-new car. I actually made it down to the final twelve, and just as Tim started thinking I might have a real shot, I got bumped.

It was fun anyway, and kind of funny—I'd been sitting with the woman who ended up winning for most of the morning. At least the prize went to a lovely lady.

There was plenty of classic radio fanfare at the event, but one booth in particular caught my eye: Dry Coffee. What the heck!? It’s a tiny chewable piece that looks like candy and tastes like toffee. Tasty... but is that even legal? It made me think—back in the day, people popped speed, then caffeine pills (or maybe they still do?)… aren't they all kind of the same thing? I'm not sure if Dry Coffee should be embraced or outlawed, but I tried one anyway and snagged two samples for my boys.

The car was beautiful—a sleek black Lincoln SUV. It made me daydream a little about what kind of car I might want someday. I’ve never owned a brand-new car in my life. I doubt I ever will—too practical (or too cheap), but hey, you never know.

Once I was out of the contest, I rushed home to prep for the beach club dance party that evening. I had hired a great band, picked up some party pizza and Italian loaves, and headed to the club to set up. The band was fantastic, and although it was super windy, the weather turned out perfect for an evening outdoors.

The dance floor was full of people enjoying the music, dancing under the stars, and soaking in the night air. The crowd went wild when Tim got up and sang a song with the band! He’s quite the showstopper—clearly, I’m not the only one in our house drawn to the spotlight.

My usual beach club besties were all under the weather, so I missed my regular crew, but I was thrilled to have friends from other pockets of life join in and stay until the very end. I had CJ from my A team, Jen from my B team, and Alida representing the in-laws (happy to have the “outlaws” sit this one out). And before you think I’m being mean (which, let’s be honest, I might be)—Jen knows she’s B team. She understands it takes twenty years to move up the ranks, and she’s almost there!

No matter their “team,” I love them all to pieces and was so grateful to share a night of laughter, dancing, and good vibes with them before summer slips away.

Here’s to unexpected mornings, unforgettable nights, and holding tight to the magic in between. Summer may be winding down, but the memories are just heating up. I may not have won the car, but I certainly have won the jackpot in family and friendships.
