Day 1116 Enough is enough...almost!
Enough is enough... almost!
When my daughter dropped off a couple of donuts for Tim and me, I couldn't resist. RI Donut Guys makes the absolute best donuts in Rhode Island, and my go-to favorite has always been the one with white frosting and colored jimmies—yum! I wouldn't turn down a jelly donut or an old-fashioned cruller either. Or even a glazed. Okay, I'd eat almost any donut.
But with Labor Day behind us, it's time to get back on track—reeling in the food, cutting back on the drinks, and paying a bit more attention to my waistline. With age comes a change in metabolism that forces us to stay on top of our caloric intake—or pay the consequences.
I spent a lifetime of carefree eating, never gaining a pound no matter what I consumed, so it's been an adjustment having to stop and think before I eat. I can't help aging, but hopefully, I can keep the pounds at bay. Lord knows I have too many nice clothes to change sizes now!
The funny thing about weight is that no one ever says a word if you gain a pound or two (or ten), but the moment you lose it, people think they're being nice by commenting—yikes. It’s never a good idea to comment on someone’s weight either way—thin or fat, keep the body comments to yourself.
I laugh when folks say, “You look great, did you lose weight?”—as if the implication isn’t that I didn’t look good before. I think it's a generational thing. Older people (my age and up) believe they’re paying a compliment by noticing a weight change, while the next generation has learned to stifle those comments.
I've never met a human who actually wants someone to comment on any body part—those are things to think but not say!
So, I’ll eat my donut in all my glory, count my calories when needed, and live life. My dad always said, “Everything in moderation, including moderation.”
Here’s to balance, self-kindness, and never turning down a really good donut.
