Day 1119 Date Night

TGIF and a Long-Awaited Date Night

Tim and I met at a park & ride to head over the bridge to the Newport Officers' Club for music, dinner, and a night alone. Of course, we ran into people we knew, so we weren’t alone for long—but it was our best attempt!

The Repercussions band was playing—a fun group that rocked a mix of sixties and seventies hits that had us dancing and singing along. The Officers' Club boasts a spectacular view of the Newport Bridge, and at sunset, it’s truly something to see. It’s always super windy there, but we came prepared with sweatshirts, so we weren’t bothered—except when Tim’s nearly empty beer was caught by a gust and flew right off the table!

I intentionally wore white pants, bucking that old-school “no white after Labor Day” rule. Take that, fashion police! Honestly, I’m not even sure where that rule came from, but I fully disagree. We should wear whatever we want, whenever we want.

And yes, I was rocking my good old Dr. Scholl's sandals—the classic wooden ones that may look like a throwback to the sixties, but I just can’t give them up. Back in the day, every drugstore had shelves lined with boxes of them, labeled by size and strap color, and we all wanted them in every shade. At about $10 a pair, it was totally doable. Now? Not so much. If you want a slice of that nostalgia today, expect to pay $100–$150 a pair. So much for collecting them in every color!

We wrapped up our night at Newport Craft, where we met up with Tim’s nephew (and I suppose mine) for a cocktail. It’s a super cool spot with a spacious second-story deck overlooking the bridge, a massive indoor area with live music, and other corners we didn’t even get a chance to explore. Definitely a place we’d visit again—although with so much to do in South County, we don’t always make the trip over the bridge.

Now that beach days are winding down, we’ll start venturing out more. Summer may be fading, but the adventures aren’t over yet. First up—time to clean the house!
