Day 1123 Flashback
Flashback fifteen years to a fun night at the SC Hospital Ball... holy cow! Tim wasn’t quite sure what I was getting him into, but he went along with it—rocking a tuxedo and fully embracing the dress-up game (and looking fantastic, I might add). I had borrowed this fabulous purple dress from my friend Dawn—still one of my all-time favorites. All these years later, she still has it, and although I’m doubtful it would still fit, I won't let her get rid of it.
Maybe it's because that dress holds such fond memories of an amazing night—dancing, dining, and feeling the ocean breeze and sea salt drift through the open windows. Sadly, the hospital stopped hosting their balls years ago. I’m not sure why, but I’m so glad we went while we had the chance.
It's not often black tie is warranted, but oh, how I love a fancy night out—and Tim has always been right there to embrace whatever plans I come up with. He and I still rely on our old-school calendar on the refrigerator to coordinate everything—a system that probably needs upgrading, but one we've held on to. These days, people sync calendars online, while we look to the fridge. Sometimes low-tech is kind of nice... although Tim does get annoyed when I forget to write things down and then spring plans on him!
As I glance at the calendar now, we’ve got plans coming up that haven’t even been penciled in yet—events in the works and RSVPs waiting for a reply. That calendar was packed full all summer, so I’m taking my sweet time easing into fall. We’ve got a wedding right around the corner, dinner and dancing planned with “the eight,” and a family trifecta of birthday celebrations to organize.
One of our grandsons just turned 13, my daughter-in-law had a birthday, and my son’s is right around the corner—so many fall birthdays! I'm still deciding whether to make three cakes or have them all share one. (Leaning toward three—because why not?)
We may not be dressing up in black tie anytime soon, but I have a feeling there will still be plenty of reasons to get fancy. And who knows—next time I visit Dawn, I just might have to try that purple dress on again, for old times' sake.
Some moments are too good to let go of completely. And some dresses? They’re worth holding onto—if only for the memories.
