Day 1150 Finding Joy
Embracing the Rain, and Everything That Comes With It
Happiness comes from embracing diversity and adverse conditions. As much as I love sunshine and warm weather, a rainy day made me unexpectedly happy—I finally had the chance to wear my new pink rubber shoes. I trekked through a wet and boggy field without a care in the world, my feet staying dry and warm. No need for big rain boots—my little shoes were just enough.
But oh boy, did it rain.
I was grateful for my giant new bin on the deck, keeping my outdoor cushions dry through the storm. It looks like the rain isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and the cold weather is coming with it. We even have our first frost warning at the end of the week. Time to bring in any outdoor plants I want to try and save for the winter.
The change of seasons has me missing beach days. I’ve never been a big fan of fall—I prefer summery colors, warm breezes, and later sunsets. But here I am, doing what I can to embrace this season.
My house is still in transition: bins of fall decorations waiting to be displayed, air conditioning units waiting to be packed away. Life feels a bit like limbo, with so much waiting for that elusive "free time" to get it all done.
Evenings are short and packed. I rushed to get the dishes and laundry done while cooking dinner, then collapsed into bed to avoid anything else that might need doing. Some people are night owls, staying up into the early hours and getting things done left and right. I’m not sure how they do it—though I suppose they don’t catch too many sunrises!
Change isn’t always comfortable, but it brings its own kind of beauty. Even the soggy, chilly days have something to offer—like warm feet, cozy moments, and a reminder that life keeps moving, with or without us.
So here’s to embracing the mess, the weather, the shifting seasons—and finding joy in the little things along the way.... and happily stomping through puddles at sixty years old.
As author Vivian Greene once said, "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass... it's about learning to dance in the rain."
Love everything about this! ❤️db
