Day 1179 Supersized

Finally had a chance to try the Tree House Tavern restaurant! It’s been on my bucket list for quite some time. Tory and I had our monthly dinner date, and when she suggested the restaurant, I was quick to say yes! Tim and I had talked about going before, but he said he thought it was “more of a ladies’ restaurant” — whatever that means.

OK, so it was filled with spectacular decorations both inside and out, with delicate antique tables, elegant chairs, and fancy menu options… maybe he’s right. As I sat waiting for Tory to arrive, I noticed mostly tables of women around me, with a few older couples sprinkled in.

Tory and I started with a delicious whipped feta appetizer that was even better than we anticipated. My entrée — lobster mac and cheese — was a bit underwhelming compared to what I’ve had at the Beach Club or the Coast Guard House, but I still managed to eat more than half before packing up the rest for lunch.

Over dinner, we chatted about her fabulous wedding and how much fun we had celebrating. I just love that girl and am so happy to see her beginning her happily ever after. We talked about kids, grandkids, and a little bit of everything else — it was the perfect end to a long day.

My day had started early, bringing my grandson to school… high school! I had driven Tim’s car instead of my usual one and was amazed to see my grandson try to squeeze his giant body into the front seat. Definitely not a car for tall people! I’m not sure how super-sized folks manage — tiny restaurant chairs, small cars — but then again, I bet they never need a step stool in their kitchen just to reach the top shelf. The only way us smaller folks survive! I’ll be sure to take my own car next week when I pick him up; at the rate he’s growing, he’ll probably be an inch taller by then.

Tim will be happy I tried the restaurant without him. He’s more of a pub guy — big bar stools, chicken wings, and absolutely no focus on seasonal décor. The kind of place you walk into and have no idea what season it is!

All in all, the Tree House Tavern was charming, cozy, fairly pricey, food hit or miss, fun atmosphere.... "quaint" but ....spoiler alert, it's not a tree house! Overall, I’m glad I finally checked it off my list, and even happier I got to share it with Tory. No matter how busy life gets it's important to make space for the people who bring joy to our lives. Tory and I scheduled our next date right then and there....next restaurant TBD.
