Day 1195 Rhodey Gal

Resetting after a heavy week — isn’t that what nature does? I love and appreciate the dropping of leaves, the bareness of the woods as they prepare for winter, only to explode with new life in the spring. Tim has been telling me for years that we’ll have to winter down south when we get old… I’m not sure how old he’s waiting for us to be, or whether he could drag me away from my beautiful Rhode Island, but time will tell on both.

Sure, being able to go for sunny walks every day would have its perks, but imagine not walking through a path in the woods covered with bright, beautiful fallen leaves of brilliant colors… I’d hate to miss that! I’d also hate to miss all the family we have right here. Being able to visit with our grandchildren is a better perk than good weather any day.

We had a fun family pizza party and game night with the kids and grandkids — the low-key kind of night you only get when you can pop in for a few hours, visit, play, and still make it home for bedtime. Our two oldest grandsons see us so often that it isn’t a big deal for them… although I imagine that in the years to come, they’ll look back and appreciate these days. Our youngest grandkids are only a couple of hours away, and although they don’t see us weekly, when they do, it’s for sleepovers and longer visits.

I suppose if Tim and I lived someplace warm for the winter, everyone would visit us… but convincing this Rhodey gal might prove harder than Tim imagines.

In the end, resetting looks different for all of us, but for me it’s rooted in the familiar rhythm of home, family, and the changing seasons. And for now, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be than right here, savoring every leaf, every laugh, and every moment....surrounded by family & friends.

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1
