Day 1203 Lucky

Gifts from Christmases Past

This little treasure finally got a new spot—and the love it always deserved. Bridie gave Tim this fancy Ember smart mug last year (maybe the year before), and while he enjoyed the high-tech novelty, the mug itself wasn’t quite big enough for him.

So as I complained yet again about my cold coffee, he finally brought the mug upstairs, showed me which app I needed (yes, an app, because even mugs need Wi-Fi now), and set me up. One cup of steaming, perfectly-held-at-my-chosen-temperature coffee later… I have to admit, it’s pretty amazing.

It’s definitely not something I’d ever buy for myself—the $100+ price tag would scare me off—but wow, I kind of love it. I love a Christmas gifts we’d never splurge on, even though Tim has never met a gadget he wouldn’t immediately “pull the trigger” on if he wants it, making him difficult to buy for.

Last year my son gave me one of those digital photo frames all the kids can send pictures to. I would never have bought it, but now I can’t imagine not seeing new photos pop up throughout the day.

I’m still knee-deep in my big cleaning project, but I’m making progress—I can even see the guest room bed again. Not clean enough to switch gears and start decorating yet, but I’m getting there. I spent the entire day sorting clothes and filling bags for Goodwill. When I finally quit around 5 p.m., I showered and faced that familiar crossroads: pajamas or actual clothes to go out. The pajamas won by a landslide.

Tim headed to the Ocean Mist to meet his brother and catch one of our favorite bands, and I was perfectly happy to stay home. I even encouraged him to go. I enjoyed my peaceful evening and was still awake when he got back, full of stories, as always.

My favorite: he told me he ran into several “good friends” of mine. He described one woman—blondish, maybe brownish hair, older or younger than him (so, extremely specific), who told him he’s the luckiest man in the world because he’s married to Rachel. I have absolutely no idea who she was, but if she’s out there, thank you for the love!

He wanted to reply that I’m the luckiest woman in the world to be married to him, but he restrained himself and went with it. And honestly? He is pretty darn lucky… but then again, so am I.

He also wanted to make sure I mentioned that he cleaned the top of the stove—only the second time in our almost sixteen years together...but hey, it happened... and he also cooked a frozen pizza this week. Color me blessed. He may not bring much cooking or cleaning to the table, but he’s fun to have around, so I think I’ll keep him.

I'll be looking forward to another hot cup of coffee, another year of fun holiday gifts and someday.... finishing this darn project I started!
