Day 1209 Six

Finally got a chance to meet our newest family member—grand baby #6.....how can that be?! Tim and I had a harrowing 2½-hour drive to Stamford; it seemed like every crazy person on the road decided to travel right alongside us. One car in particular was weaving between lanes, nearly crashing into the median and creating havoc as we tried to avoid them, either getting ahead of him or stay safely behind. When he finally exited the highway, he cut across all lanes from the left with no blinker, somehow managing not to hit anyone.

We were very glad to reach Bridie’s in one piece, eager to see the boys and meet the new baby. Holding a newborn is one of life’s greatest joys, the tiny noises, the warmth, the sweet effort it takes for them to open their eyes and look around. Pure magic. The baby is, of course, perfection. Tim and I took turns holding him and soaking up all the baby love we could. Bridie looks wonderful and, thankfully, is feeling great too.

After a few hours of visiting, we packed up to make the drive home, with plans to stop along the way for dinner with Tim’s brother Denis and his wife. I’d love to report that the drive back was calmer, but it was worse! As we approached our exit, Tim settled into the slow lane, only to have a truck speed up along our left and then, when it was right beside us, turn into our lane and nearly run us off the road. The truck never corrected itself, no idea if the driver even saw us, as we rode the rumble strip trying to stay on the pavement. We were relieved to reach our exit and escape the chaos.

Dinner was delicious, though the restaurant forgot to assign us a server at first. We sat… and sat… and waited patiently until, about half an hour later, a very apologetic waitress appeared with complimentary appetizers. She couldn’t have been nicer. Honestly, Tim and I needed a few minutes to regroup after that drive, so the delay was fine by us. After our meal, the manager treated us to coffee and dessert, and by the time we got back in the car for the final leg home, we were stuffed and ready for the road home. Tim was on high alert as the driver but I slept like a baby, waking up just as we turned onto our street. Thankfully, the final leg of the trip was uneventful.

Bridie, Greg, and the boys will be staying with us in a couple of weeks, so we’ll get even more baby time. Tiny baby vibes are truly the best, and we feel so grateful for these sweet moments. Life may be chaotic on the road, but in our family, thankfully there's peace and love.
