Day 2114 Decisions

How can I possibly say I need new perfume with all these pretty little bottles waiting for me on my bathroom shelf? Well, “need” maybe isn’t the right word… and somehow, with all these little bottles, the one fragrance I actually want has run dry. You’d think I could easily switch over to a new bottle, but it isn’t that easy. I’ve been wearing my Chanel No. 5 for over a year now, and making the switch feels impossible!

The dispenser is there, but both perfume cartridges are gone… ugh. I bought the perfume brand-new at a thrift store, crazy what some people give away, and then I got completely hooked on it. Now, as I search through the variety of fragrances that all stem from Chanel No. 5, I’m not sure I’ll find my exact match. And with those retail price tags, I definitely don’t want to buy the wrong one! Thankfully, I saved the box to help narrow down my search, although, it’s still not easy. Amazing what we’ll deep-dive into when we’re determined to find something.

I could make my life easy and take my empty box to the mall to find my match at the Macy’s fragrance counter… but where’s the fun in that!? I should really be more careful with the deals I find. Getting hooked on fancy perfume might not turn out to be a deal at all. The one I think is mine sells for about $150 for 1.7 ounces. No wonder I’ve smelled so great!

I had the twist-and-spray bottle, so I still haven’t found my exact match; it seems to be sold out everywhere I look. With all my full fancy bottles on my counter, I should just try to use them up before bringing any new ones in, though that could take me the rest of my life! I did, however, place a Chanel No. 4 men’s cologne on Tim’s bathroom counter… he doesn’t even realize how fancy he is or how lucky he is that things just magically appear.

Fragrances are funny, scents changing depending on who’s wearing them. Like everything else in life, we each have our own vibe and our own things that work (and don’t work) for us. Sorry for the rambling, but I write what’s on my mind, and today I woke up with my first-world problems: change up fragrances or splurge? Decisions, decisions…

In the end, maybe this little perfume dilemma is just a reminder to slow down and enjoy the small luxuries I already have. And who knows, maybe the perfect scent will find its way back to me when I’m not even looking.
