Day 2129 Chicken Cam
One of my Christmas gifts was a video bird feeder, and while I waited for Tim to set it up outside, I decided to put it inside the chicken coop so I could watch my girls up close. They went absolutely crazy for the bird food and were curious about the new addition inside their coop. It was fun to watch them frantically gobble up the food and scurry around, but after about twenty minutes I had to pull the feeder out, afraid they were going to break it! The big, beautiful bird in this shot is, of course, Betty White… and yes, she really is a beauty.
I’m excited to see the birds up close once it’s set up outside. I’ve wanted one of these feeders for a couple of years and never even mentioned it, so props to Tim for such a thoughtful gift. He also bought me my perfume. My hints...writing about wanting it, placing the empty bottle and box on the counter, and mentioning it every day for a few weeks, were subtle, so I’m glad he picked up on them. There’s a reason Chanel No. 5 has been around for so long (and is so pricey); it just smells so darn good.
We opened and played a bunch of new games, and one I had bought as a joke for Tim ended up being one of the biggest hits of the night. My daughter even left her crew to come visit with us after dinner, so although I had been ready for an early bedtime, I rallied and played a few more rounds. We played that darn drawing game again, and once again my lack of artistic skills gave everyone a good laugh. Honestly, how am I supposed to draw a grilled cheese sandwich?
As we sat playing in front of the stove, soaking up the warmth on such a cold night, the snow outside began coming down fast and furious. Before we knew it, there was at least an inch covering the ground. There’s a certain peacefulness that settles over the world when it snows—a quiet serenity only a snowstorm can bring. Being safe and warm inside by the fire during a snowstorm is about as close to perfection as life gets.
We also played a new game Read the Room, which asks pointed questions you agree or disagree with and then challenges you to guess how many people will answer the same way. Some questions sparked bigger debates, others just made us laugh, but all of them were interesting. Tim is known for not being able to read a room, which is exactly why I bought the game based on its name. No surprise, he came in last place, though he was a good sport about it. I won the first round, and my son came in first the next. I may not be able to draw, but at least I can read a room.
It was a cozy night at home, snow falling outside, games on the table, and a house full of family, a Boxing Day to remember.
