Day 2155 Balance
Life is all about finding the right fit, the proper balance, and the right weight.
As high as I was riding last year on my big bowling win, I just couldn’t seem to find my groove this time around. String after string, I couldn’t even break 100! I could easily blame it on not being able to find the right ball...because isn’t that what we do when we bowl badly? I kept switching between a yellow and an orange ball, both under ten pounds, hoping I’d suddenly find my rhythm. But it just wasn’t in the cards. Maybe it was simply someone else’s day to shine.
Lord knows, I’ve never hung my hat on my bowling skills, and fun was had win or lose. There’s something optimistic and inspiring about watching people give it all they have, turn after turn, even when things don’t go their way.
Fortunately, in other aspects of my life, things are falling into place. I’m happily living with a sense of balance, where most things seem to fit just right. But that elusive “right weight” still manages to keep me on my toes.
I’ve often said I don’t mind aging, and it’s true, mostly. Except for this new phase where I have to “watch what I eat.” What?! I spent my entire life eating and drinking whatever I wanted without a care in the world about my weight. Since I was always a size 2, it never mattered. But older me has to constantly keep things in check, ugh! If I let up, that number creeps up, and before I know it, I’m “Chubby Checker.”
My dad always used to say, “Everything in moderation, including moderation.” It was one of his favorite quotes, and it resonates with me daily. We all need to splurge sometimes, then gently guide ourselves back into balance. I just need to make sure I'm not splurging more than I'm keeping things in check!
In the end, whether it’s bowling, balance, or body weight, life’s just a series of adjustments. The trick is knowing when to relax, when to reset, and when to roll with it...(pun intended) no matter what the score says at the end of the game (or on the scale).
“Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” ~ Winston Churchill
