Day 2163 Flexing

Spontaneous trivia night, with hits and misses but all fun. Tim and I had a wake to attend as soon as we both got home. It was a sad farewell to Mike, a really nice guy, and our hearts both hurt for his wife. The two of them were like two peas in a pod, we never saw one without the other. We shared so many great times with them sitting on the deck at our beach club, and Mike always had a smile, a story, and a kind word to say… not a bad way to be remembered.

After paying our respects to his wife, we headed out with friends for a drink. They wanted to check out the newly opened Matunuck Oyster Bar in town, so we gave it our best shot, but the place was jam-packed. We all bailed and landed at Joyce’s Pub instead. We found seats at the bar without issue, had a drink and a bite to eat, and were surprised when trivia started setting up. We decided to stay for at least one round.

We did surprisingly well, at least until the last few questions, but even without a chance of winning, it was fun to flex our trivia knowledge. Somehow, going out for dinner or drinks after a wake always seems to happen; there’s no sense in going straight home to be sad.

Looks like we’ll be home this weekend with another storm on the horizon. It’s anyone’s guess how much snow we’ll get, predictions have been all over the map, from 1 to 10 inches—so we’ll have to wait and see. People have been complaining about all the snow still on the ground, with piles along the streets making parking difficult and walkways covered even after attempts to clear them. But I love it all. It’s our beautiful winter showing off, and if we’re going to have the cold, we might as well enjoy the beauty of the snow. Sometimes it’s nice to slow down, stay cozy, and appreciate the season exactly as it is.
