Day 2165 Crafty

Girls’ night, with a craft and all! My crew of gals met over at Bethany’s for a long-overdue get-together. Bethany will be getting married soon and is already packing up to move. She’s been my neighbor for more than fifteen years, so needless to say, I’m not thrilled about her relocating!
We laughed and joked that the new tenants will have to honor our system. I’ve always had a key to her place, just in case I need something, or more likely, she needs me to do something. When I originally asked for the key I figured it would mostly be for me...turns out I was over there bringing in mail, watering plants, accepting packages and everything else under the sun....how the heck did it work out that way? But even with all that, it's been good to have, in a pinch it's nice to grab that cup of sugar if needed. I’m not sure the new people will be okay with the arrangement...but I'll have to explain that it’s just how we roll…"hi, new neighbor...I live next door and we have a deal that I always have a key to this apartment".....time will tell.
Before the official move-out day arrives, we’re going to try to squeeze in a few more fun get-togethers. Everyone brought an appetizer, dessert, or drinks, and all were eager to celebrate being together. Nicole even brought a craft....canvas bags with iron-on stickers, which ended up being way more fun than it sounds. We completely overdid our bags, adding as many iron-ons as possible, each of us embracing our inner creativity. We all agreed that a craft now needs to be part of every get-together. Heck, maybe I’ll even bring one next time… I do have a few crafty skills hidden somewhere!
It was the perfect evening on a super cold winter night, seriously, freezing cold. It’s been so cold that even inside the house it’s tough to stay warm, with the heat struggling to maintain a reasonable temperature. So of course, I baked cookies. Nothing beats the smell of fresh cookies baking, and the warmth of the oven made the kitchen nice and toasty for a bit.
Tim was happy as a clam in his comfy chair in front of the fire, pleased that I had evening plans that didn’t include him and content to stay in his PJs. Nights like these are a reminder of how special simple moments with good friends can be, full of laughter, creativity, a whole lot of love....and chocolates. Here’s to squeezing in a few more memories before the next chapter begins and hoping my new neighbors appreciate our system.
“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, ‘What! You too? I thought I was the only one.’” ~ C.S. Lewis
