Day 2170 Daybreak

Virginia-bound...easy, fast flight. Funny how the prep and waiting always take longer than the flight itself. I scurried around all morning, as I do: prepping the chickens, the basement cat, dealing with garbage, dishes, laundry, and all the house what-nots that need tending before being away. Sure, Tim will be home holding down the fort, but he’s not known for doing much beyond keeping the animals alive. He opted to stay home, afraid he’d miss a minute of his football game since the flight back is the same night… his loss.

My son was waiting at the airport for me, laughing as I walked right past him and the crowd, fully on a mission to get outside, him hustling to catch up. We went to his favorite burger joint for a bite: delicious food, with the bonus that the fries and everything else are cooked in beef tallow, since he doesn’t eat seed oils. A much healthier option, and one I hope more restaurants start picking up on.

Once we got back to his place, he surprised me with a present...a beautiful new bathrobe. Since I was traveling light, he knew I wouldn’t waste space packing mine, but I do love a good robe. I quickly threw on my PJs and my new robe, and before I knew it, I was crashing hard from the full day. While he was in his gym working out, I snuck off to bed like an old lady.

He’s an early riser like me, so we’ll have our catch-up time in the morning hours. Even when he needs to leave for work, he wakes up at least an hour early to sit, enjoy a coffee, and start the day right, more like his mom than he’d ever admit. He says he refuses to start his day in chaos. Perfect words for something I’ve always felt and lived by.

Virginia isn’t warm, but it’s certainly warmer than Rhode Island. So I’ll soak in the sunshine, cozy and content, wrapped up in my new robe, grateful for slow mornings and the quiet comfort of being exactly where I’m meant to be.
