Day 2171 Relaxing

Lazy day playing games, watching TV, and just hanging with my son… perfection. I bought a new card game and had it sent ahead, given my limited packing space, it seemed like a good idea. The game has you guessing how the other person will rank random words. It’s super fun to play two-on-two against another couple, but it also works great one-on-one. My son and I laughed at how well we know each other, easily numbering items with matching answers.

After playing several rounds, we settled in to watch a few wild travel shows on YouTube. The first was about giant crocodiles in the Philippines and their villages built right on the water, where people live and swim smack dab in the middle of the danger. And yes… people do go missing now and again. Yikes. The next crocodile episode took us to India, showcasing touristy beaches with warning signs about sea crocs—conveniently placed beyond where tourists would actually see them. What the heck?! It definitely made me rethink ever swimming in strange waters again!

We ended up watching several documentaries from the same guy’s YouTube channel, curious where he’d head next and entertained by his take on it all. The last one had him traveling through Afghanistan under Taliban rule...not a chance. Still, it was interesting to watch with my son, who recognized much of the country from his long time there during the war. Outside, snow was falling while we lounged cozily inside, fully living our best lives, entertained, warm and cozy.

My son offered to take me out to dinner, but I was perfectly content with a bowl of cereal and continuing to hold the real world at arm’s length. We may or may not leave the house this weekend, and I’m completely happy staying in. Maybe when Tim joins me we’ll do a few touristy things, but honestly, I’m not here to see anything but my boy. There’s something incredibly relaxing about sitting on someone else’s couch, with none of your day-to-day household chores lurking in the background, and I’m soaking up and enjoying every minute of it.
