Day 2180 Hiding Spaces

Creating new hiding spaces for our basement cat…just in case she decides to come upstairs again.
The past few times she’s made her brave journey into the unknown upstairs, she’s landed in our living room, or, as Tim calls it, the piano room. The baby grand isn’t played often these days; the ivories are only tickled when my son comes to visit, since neither Tim nor I can play a note. That makes the space under the piano a perfectly safe (and quiet) hiding spot for the cat house.
I’m not sure she’d be any happier upstairs, but options are always good. I think I’d feel better if she spent more time in our living spaces…but she has her own agenda, and you’ve got to respect that.
Tim spent the day annoyed that someone called him out for wearing jeans, so of course I had to tease him about it, singing Forever in Blue Jeans by Neil Diamond every chance I got. I went for a nice walk with my youngest son and his dog, loving the sunshine and determined to make outdoor walks a regular thing again. He came over afterward with a new board game for a bit of afternoon fun, and just as he was heading out, my mom arrived for dinner.
I had made a big Sunday meal and was grateful for an early dinnertime. Tim was heading out to see a band, but I was perfectly content staying home, warm, cozy, and happy for an early bedtime. I thought the cat might even sneak upstairs with the house so quiet…but if she did, I didn’t see her.
Maybe one day she’ll decide the piano room is hers after all. Until then, we’ll keep making space for her, upstairs or down, and let her find her way in her own time.
