Day 2187 Storm Food

Storm prep and a new wool sweater...just in time!
The day was spent preparing for an impending storm, possibly even a blizzard, so I had to batten down the hatches: adding a few tarps to the chicken run and, of course, stocking up on proper storm food… akin to Super Bowl food. With a refrigerator full of delicious options, Tim and I promptly went out to dinner, saving all our storm snacks for the first official sighting of a snowflake. Storm food is strictly off limits until the storm hits.
It seems more than a few people had the same idea. Mariner Grille was hopping with locals was such a fun time. The thought of being housebound for a day or two had everyone panicking to get out, no doubt hoping to preserve their own storm food reserves as well.
Earlier, I’d spotted a beautiful wool sweater on a local Facebook swap site and tossed my name into the ring along with many others. Well, wouldn’t you know it, the woman chose me! It’s a handmade sweater from Guatemala, 100% thick wool, and absolutely perfect for a blizzard. I snagged it, pulled it on, amazed that it fit and stayed toasty warm all evening.
Enough of all that.....I know everyone’s expecting a Basement Cat update, so here goes. We continue to make strides... I was sitting in the kitchen when she came upstairs, glanced in my direction without panicking, and continued walking through the dining room into the living room, exploring, but not acting like she was trying to escape from Alcatraz. She eventually settled under the dining room table and rested there for a while before heading back downstairs. Super big progress!
During dinner, Tim and I once again discussed her name. I suggested “BC,” short for Basement Cat. He rejected that idea and proposed “Gyppie.” It’s a little weird, but so is the entire situation so who knows. At least we’re making progress there, too. So for now, Gyppie it is… although she’ll probably always be Basement Cat to me. Truthfully, I mostly default to the generic “kitty” anyway.I suppose the more we get to know her, the more a fitting name will naturally stick.
Now we wait for the first snowflake to fall, storm snacks at the ready and wool sweaters on standby. If we’re going to be snowed in, at least we’ll be cozy, well fed, warmly dressed, and making steady progress with our once-elusive girl.
