Day 2198 First Impressions

Last night Tim and I sat quietly watching our cat for Longer than I'd like to admit.

I realize I’ve been writing too much about this darn cat… but seriously, she amazes me every day. Tim and I rush home to see what she’s doing, what toys she’s been playing with, and whether she’s found a new resting spot. Last night, she perched herself on the back of the couch, resting peacefully while Tim and I  sit, quietly watching her. We’re both so overwhelmed with joy that She’s settling in and, I dare say, even looking happy.

She waltzed over to where I was sitting on the floor, wanting me to pet her, then rolled over on her back, a sure sign she was eager for more attention and trusting me.

Pretty soon spring will be here, and Tim and I will be busy going out and enjoying evening life again. But for now, this cat is our main focus.

I think back to the day I brought her home, with Tim telling me I might as well have thrown a wild hyena into the house. And within a few short (or long) months… here we are. I can’t even apologize for carrying on about her progress. After such a tough life, it’s amazing she can bounce back at all and ever trust a human.

Apparently there’s a village in Greece that will pay you to live there in exchange for taking care of all the feral cats. Not a bad gig… wouldn’t that be a fun retirement plan? I’m not sure we’ll go that far, but rescuing one here at home has filled our world with happiness.

I’ve got a conference coming up in a few weeks. It won’t be easy to break our routine with the cat, but hopefully she’ll know I’m coming back. The biggest question on my mind has been: what to wear? Ugh.

I’ll be presenting an educational session, so it’s important I wear a solid color, patterns would be too distracting. But color matters. I’d hate to be blah and wear black; that feels far too stiff for me. The slides for my session have an ocean-blue scheme, so the obvious choice would be an ocean-blue dress… oh, the struggles.

I’m kind of a freak about certain outfit criteria, and this one needs to be exactly what my mind envisions, kind of like that red taffeta prom dress way back in the day. There are no exceptions. So fingers crossed I find the perfect dress, paired with the perfect shoes. After all, it takes less than seven seconds to form a first impression.. I need to convey, intelligence, fun, creativity, approachability and success...no pressure at all. I've got the perfect outfit in my mind, now to make it all happen...seven seconds comes fast!

Good thing we gave our sweet basement cat a lot more than seven seconds.

Judging by the way she curls up on the couch these days, I think she’s decided we’re worth the chance and gave us more than a few seconds before judging us too!
