Oops!

Red skies at night… sailors and fishermen know this means a beautiful day is right around the corner. Red skies in the morning… sailors take warning. So lucky me to catch a glimpse of this beautiful sunset, with the sky burning red like fire and the reflection turning my river crimson. Isn’t it amazing when Mother Nature shows off?

My mom and I had gone for a long walk on the seawall and marveled at the beautiful ocean. Maybe Mother Nature heard us, because she seemed to reply with, “If you like that, take a look at this!”

Now to my “oops.” Somehow along the way I must have transposed numbers (no shocker there) when numbering my blog post each day. I stopped yesterday and thought, wait a minute, I haven’t been writing for six years! So I looked back. Sure enough, I began writing this blog in August of 2022, so it’s been almost four years, but certainly not six. Oh well… mistakes happen.

And while I’m confessing to mishaps, that darn perfect dress I ordered still hasn’t arrived. I checked on it and apparently ordered it from a shop in Amsterdam! Yikes. I quickly went online and ordered a backup, not quite as perfect, but an almost-perfect dress in hand is far better than one in flight somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean on the day of my presentation.

While I was at it, I ordered a pretty ocean-wave pin, or, as Tim would call it, a brooch. Inspired by the crashing waves from the morning, it will tie into the theme of my slideshow. Attention to details sure does make all the difference....for better or worse!

So I may be someone who transposes numbers and letters and occasionally forgets to check where I’m ordering from. But one thing I never miss is the beauty laid out in front of me: ocean waves, sunshine, fire-red sunsets, and Mother Nature’s glory.

And maybe that’s the detail that matters most of all, pausing long enough to notice the world putting on a show. Because when the sky turns red and the water mirrors its glow, it feels like a quiet reminder that some of life’s most perfect moments don’t need to be ordered online… they simply arrive...we just need to be open to appreciating them.

“Red sky at night, sailors’ delight.
Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning.”
