Signs of spring

Well, well, well… look at what we have here, emerging right on cue as we close in on the first day of spring. Crocuses are a beautiful reminder that warmer days are right around the corner, with their bright blossoms of color. Somehow, they make it through the winter mess, leaves, branches, and everything trying to block their way...and yet, they still bloom.
I love a hardy bulb that beats all odds. Perfect for folks like me who can’t be bothered with outdoor yard work. Maybe someday, when I’m much older, retired, and have free time on my hands, I’ll have a lovely yard. But until then, I’ll enjoy whatever nature sends my way, naturally.
I wonder if I’ll ever be one of those people with a blank calendar. Somehow, I doubt it. I always seem to find an opening and fill it to the brim with a flurry of activities, as if grabbing onto life with both hands and packing as much as possible into each day.
Fortunately, dinner was one thing I didn’t have to think about, Tim ordered us Chinese food and even went out to pick it up. Thank goodness, because I wasn’t feeling fantastic and wasn’t sure I had the energy to put anything together. I ate, opened my fortune—“today’s strength will lead to triumph”—then promptly went to bed, not feeling very strong at all. I didn’t even care that it wasn’t 7 p.m. yet. A gal’s gotta rest when she can.
Spring arrives on March 20th, and although I’m sure it will still be cold, maybe even snow, and I won’t be putting away my winter coat just yet… I know the warmth of my beach-day sunshine is right around the corner.
And maybe that’s what these little crocuses are trying to say, hold on just a bit longer. The brighter, warmer days are coming, and the summer sun is waiting patiently in queue.
