excess

What to do with a badly behaved chicken? I’m hoping a couple of days of isolation will shift her mojo. This good-looking gal has been raiding the nesting box, eating eggs, and creating havoc in the coop. After being caught in the act, yolk-covered beak and all, she’s spent the past few days and nights sectioned off while we try to determine if she’s the only one causing trouble or if she has an accomplice. She wasn’t too happy, staring at her friends through the chicken wire and unable to join them, but she had plenty of food, water, and her own nesting box for laying—so no sympathy from me. She produces beautiful, large white eggs and, so far, hasn’t eaten her own.

The rest of the flock went about their business, and although I collected lots of eggs, a few yolk-covered shells suggested there might be another culprit in the coop. Before bedtime, I removed this hen from isolation and let her return to the flock to roost… the egg-eating saga rolling into round two.

I admired my beautiful new mahjong tiles but haven’t played with them yet. Christening them needs to happen with people who play well and can truly appreciate the beauty of a new set. I’ve made plans with a few friends for the morning, although I really need to squeeze in some weekly cleaning at some point. Tim questioned the new packages being delivered as I opened a box with a pretty pink set of tiles… he doesn’t realize how awesome my next mahjong gathering will be! And he should know me well enough by now, I’m a woman of excess, and I love it, no apologies from me.

With no dinner plans in sight, we headed to Mariner Grill, where Tim teased me about my taste… my go-to being the ribeye or lobster. He still wonders why I can’t just enjoy a burger. Again, he should know better by now!

Here’s hoping tomorrow brings fewer egg crimes, a successful round of mahjong with my beautiful new tiles and maybe even a little progress on that cleaning list. If nothing else, life feels full in the best way, feathers, tiles, and all the excess I can gather.
