Mental Tabs

I’m never quite sure who will roll in on a Tuesday night to play Mahjong, or what they might bring. Leave it to my crew to arrive with treats of all kinds: Prosecco, cookies, magic bars, and even a lemon cake from Greggs. Sugar is my drug of choice, so as you can imagine, I was in heaven. Oh, how I love my gals. We played, chatted, laughed, and carried on exactly as a Tuesday night should be.
I’m also starting to narrow down my Easter plans....at least in my mind. A bit of online grocery shopping and I’ll be ready. Historically, I always host an Easter brunch, but with teenage grandkids, they might prefer a later meal. So this year, I may turn it into more of a lunch. Bridie and the little boys will arrive Friday, so I’ve got a bit of scurrying to do before the house fills up with family. Thank goodness the basement cat has her safe space, I’m not sure how she’ll feel about a couple of rambunctious boys and a baby!
I’m really looking forward to a full house, Easter treats, and egg hunts. Easter has always been one of my favorite holidays, those springtime vibes just make everything feel fresh and hopeful.
My weekdays have been so busy lately, with so many mental tabs open all at once, I’m trying to maintain balance by filling any free time I can with friends and family. I had a wonderful lunch date with my daughter-in-law, dining out really does seem to be my thing these days. We found ourselves talking about the timeline of my retirement, which is such a tough question. If I could peek into the future and know how long I’ll live, planning would certainly be easier. If I make it to 90, I could comfortably work until 75. But if my time only stretches into my mid-70s, retiring in my mid-60s would make more sense.
Maybe the real key is simply making sure I’m enjoying what I do right now.... setting up my weekday life to be so darn fun It feels like free time. My golf game may never be great, but that might be ok.
All in all, I’m pretty darn happy to be turning 61. Life is good, my friends and family fill me with cheer, and who knows, Tim and I might even plan a vacation this year. The world really does feel like my oyster. And with Tuesdays night like this.... who could complain?!
