Ricky

With everything that went on yesterday, you’d think I’d have a hard time choosing just one photo, Earth Day clean-up, a party at the beach club, beautiful ocean scenes, but all of those moments paled in comparison to Ricky, the biggest cat I’ve ever seen.

Ricky belongs to Carole and Ray, and he is a staggering 27 pounds. He eats special (and expensive) food due to IBS...who even knew cats could have that? It certainly doesn’t seem to be slowing his weight gain. After the party at the beach club wrapped up, much earlier than any Saturday party should, we all headed back to Carole and Ray’s and were completely entertained by that cat. Watching Donna try to pick him up had us all laughing; it was a full workout. Ricky strutted around, unimpressed with the attention but not entirely opposed to being lifted like a free weight. I have no idea how he got so big, or even what breed he is, but wow.

Coming home to our regular-sized basement cat made her seem tiny after an evening with Ricky. Honestly, if I posted a photo of him, people might assume it was AI-generated, he’s almost unbelievably large.

But enough about cats.

The day started with an Earth Day clean-up, gotta show Mother Nature some love whenever we can. It’s amazing (and frustrating) how much litter is out there. Do people really still litter? How and why would you just throw trash on the street? I have so many questions. Even with large groups of volunteers, there was more debris than we could handle, especially in areas where snowplows had piled up winter snow along with months of embedded garbage. Anyone who argues for dumping snow into our waters might rethink that stance if they saw what’s actually mixed into it.

After a cold morning of cleaning, I headed to the beach club for a wonderful Italian lunch. The food was delicious, and the company was even better, though I still can’t figure out why everyone seemed to chew and screw when it was such a beautiful day by the ocean.  It would have been nice to linger long enough to catch the sunset over the ocean. Maybe the club closes early on Saturday....which wouldn't make much sense since they are open until 9 on Wednesdays.... again, so many questions.

Thankfully, Ray and Carole welcomed our crew back to their house, where we unintentionally interrupted Ricky’s peace and quiet and he unwittingly became the focus of our night.

All in all, it was a full day, good company, good food, a little perspective, and one very unforgettable large cat.
