Seaside

Nothing beats an early morning beach walk, especially when you have the entire shoreline to yourself. Sure, there were a few people here and there, but if you get out early enough, you can have the seawall and the sand almost entirely to yourself.
I called my mom first thing, knowing she’d be about the only person I know who would be awake that early and up for a walk. It was still pretty cold, but the sun felt amazing and the wind wasn’t too bad. We walked about three miles, collecting seashells and special “magic” rocks, always on the lookout for little treasures from the ocean.
After our walk, I treated myself to a hot cup of coffee with two oatmeal chocolate chip cookies… which is basically the same as oatmeal for breakfast, right?
After a short break, I was back outside, mucking out the henhouse, raking up leaves, and assessing the mess the winter left behind. It looks like there’s plenty of spring cleanup ahead, but who can complain when the sun is shining?
Tim and I made a trip to Job Lot for new rakes and shovels, along with several pots of pansies. I love the instant gratification of annual flowers! I’m eager to start living out on the deck again, basking in the sunshine and ditching real shoes for a few months.
We headed to the beach club for dinner on the deck, picking up a pizza on the way. But when we arrived, all the tables were still inside, just a bit too cold for outdoor dining. So we ate inside instead, then went for a nice after-dinner walk on the beach. I kicked off my shoes and walked barefoot in the sand, a little slice of heaven.
Soon enough, we’ll be lounging seaside and settling into the lazy days of summer. Until then, I’ll take these bright, chilly spring days as a gentle reminder that summer will be here soon. But for now, I can still have the beach to myself! Oh, how I love beach life.
