Static

Pansies in my flower box, now that’s an instant smile! I love looking out the window and seeing bright yellow, orange, and green. Although, choosing a color theme is always a challenge. I typically gravitate toward pinks and purples, but I love them all so much that I usually have to make a few different planters just to enjoy every shade.

I’ve been loving having the table up on the deck, though I may want a slightly smaller one, and I’m definitely on the hunt for some comfy chairs. Spring is clearly here! This week, the weather is even threatening to hit 80 degrees… I can only hope.

If I were home during the week, I’d probably putter around in the yard all day. But with only weekends to work with, it’s a struggle to maintain a semi-clean house and keep up with yard work. The deck might be the perfect solution, a few instant planters, and I can sit back and enjoy the beauty, looking out at the treetops and ignoring the yard mess below. I could almost relax… if I had a spare minute or two!

I was up and out of the house early, bringing trash to the transfer station, returning an item to Walmart, and picking up a few snacks before my long day. I had my teaching gig right when I got home, so there was no rest for the weary. By the time I arrived home for the night, it was almost 8 p.m., and I was too tired to eat dinner or do one more thing.

I really enjoyed teaching, though week two is always a bit tough. I had gone over everything in painstaking detail during week one, and then had a few students who missed it, so I had to backtrack...but not so much that I bored those who had been there. Still, It was fun and certainly distracting from real life. It’s nice to clear my mind from the static that so often fills it.

Maybe that’s why I love my beautiful flowers so much. They snap me out of the noise and pull my focus back to the simple, beautiful gifts this world has to offer, if we just slow down long enough to notice them.

And maybe that’s the real lesson in all of this: not everything needs to be perfectly done or completely caught up. Sometimes it’s enough to sit on the deck, surrounded by color, and let a quiet moment of beauty remind me of life's treasures, still arriving daily, one small bloom at a time.
