Winding down

Chaos can be beautiful if you love all your ingredients… and that pretty much sums up life lately.

I was chatting with an old high school friend who’s gearing up to retire, as so many of my friends are. Meanwhile, I seem to be ramping up while everyone around me is winding down… what’s up with that? I suppose it’s my own fault. I rarely turn down an opportunity when it’s presented, which keeps me busier than I probably should be. The last thing on earth I need is a second job of any kind. But when I was asked to teach Mahjong for my town’s recreation center, how could I say no?

Well, my spring classes filled so quickly, waitlists kept growing, and with no way to squeeze everyone into the current programs, I’ve now agreed to teach another night to accommodate the demand.... I just couldn't stop myself. I’ve only committed to a couple of hours on Monday and Tuesday evenings, and just for the month of April, so it won’t interfere with my weekends.

Oddly enough, I think it will be fun, certainly not real work, so no complaints here. I imagine if I ever did retire, I’d end up with a dozen side jobs just to keep myself busy! I might just need a few more hours in each day… or at least a little more daylight.

Spring is in the air, sunshine, warmth, outdoor living, flowers blooming, and I feel like a horse at the starting line, waiting for it all to take off. Life is beautiful, and even in all the chaos, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Maybe that’s the secret, leaning into the busy, embracing the unexpected, and finding joy in the swirl of it all. Because sometimes, the fullest days are the ones that remind us we’re truly living.... no doubt, I'm living large.
