Perfection

Ahhh, back to the beach! It was a spectacular day,  temperatures in the 80s, and it finally felt as though winter’s curtain had been pulled back to reveal the sunshine and warmth.

I was up early (shocker), washing the deck rails that were already showing signs of crud, assessing all the planters I want to tackle this week, and trying to get ahead of the household chores that have been piling up. Then, just after 10 a.m., Tim suggested we bag it all and head to the beach. I couldn’t throw on my suit fast enough.

We stopped to pick up sandwiches, and off we went.

When we arrived at our club, we found the gates closed. Apparently, they don’t open on Sundays until noon. Good lord! We had assumed they might adjust the hours because of the spectacular weather. They never hesitate to close for bad weather, so why not open early for a perfect beach day?

Oh well,  I’m not in charge of any of that.

Luckily, we found a spot along the road and walked onto the free side of the beach, where a few families had already set up for the day. Once we hit the sand, we couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. It could easily have rivaled the nicest summer day. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky or even a hint of haze in the air. Block Island was visible in the distance and has definitely been calling to us lately.

We ate our sandwiches and, within half an hour, both fell asleep to the sound of the ocean. Absolute perfection.

We also got way too much sun, our winter-white skin quickly turning pink, but neither of us cared. We were simply too happy to spend the day soaking up sunshine.

I wandered into the club after waking up and found tables full of card players and mahjong groups inside, while the outside deck sat completely empty. Everyone was indoors, missing all that glorious sunshine!

Tim and I headed home around 3:30, fully aware we’d probably had more sun than we should have, but completely content with our day.

I think the next nice weekend, we’ll try a different beach. We’re lucky to have so many beautiful ones around us, and all have open parking gates. Maybe we’ll become spring beach hoppers.

Now there’s a dream.
