Mother’s Day Mahjong… What Else Would You Expect?!

My friends had the brilliant idea for us to get together for a little Mahjong outside at a café in EG, as if it’s warm enough to sit outdoors all morning this time of year! But the sun was shining, sweaters on so it wasn't too bad. One of my friends had just returned home from South Carolina, where everything Mahjong seems to be absolutely exploding in popularity. She came back with a gorgeous new Southern-themed tile set and a beautiful new mat, so of course I was immediately in to play!

I invited Jess to join us, and my usually antisocial girl is all in, once I mentioned Mahjong. With pockets full of quarters in hand, (oops.... I suppose we shouldn't be "gambling" in public) we played game after game while people walked by, some curious about what we were doing, others proudly showing off their 2026 cards and looking ready to jump right in.

The four of us, all mothers, couldn’t have been happier with our choice for the day.

We had met up at a friend’s house right on Main Street in EG, how cool is that? We exchanged flowers, little trinkets, and tokens of friendship before setting up our game right outside a cozy café, where we enjoyed coffee and pastries between hands.

Playing outside was so much fun that it inspired me to follow through on purchasing the perfect table and chairs for my deck so I can create my own little outdoor Mahjong haven. The outdoor table I currently have is just slightly too big, so that one will eventually move down to the patio once it’s finished. In its place on the deck will be a smaller table with comfy chairs, the perfect setup for long Mahjong afternoons once the weather fully cooperates.

And apparently, there’s already talk of a girls’ trip to South Carolina in the works.

Once again… count me in!

“A sweet friendship refreshes the soul.” ~ Proverbs 27:9
