Thoughtfulness

There’s this tired narrative that women are catty, competitive, or full of drama,  the whole “Karen” stereotype wrapped up with a bow. But honestly? That couldn’t be further from my reality.

The truth is, the women in my life are thoughtful in ways that go beyond what most people imagine. Supportive, generous, attentive. I can’t think of a single week in the past few years where I haven’t received a kind note, a small gift, or some token of friendship. Sometimes it’s simple, sometimes it’s unexpected, but it’s always meaningful.

Maybe I’ve just been lucky. Or maybe I’ve made some really smart choices about who I surround myself with.

Tim has good friends as well, truly, he does. But their friendships look different. There aren’t surprise notes or little gifts just because. It’s more like a quick text, a call, maybe meeting up for a beer. And that’s fin, we’re all wired differently. Still, I can’t imagine any of his friends writing him a heartfelt note or showing up with a “just because” gift. So yes… I think it’s fair to say there’s a little bit of jealousy when he sees me come home with cards, gifts, and reminders of how much I’m cared for.

Yesterday, I wasn’t feeling great. I spent most of the day in bed,  a much-needed reset. I even wrote my blog later than usual. Not long after, I started getting texts from friends asking if I was okay. Am I that predictable? Maybe. But more than anything, it felt really good to know that my small daily routine matters to people.

The gifts are lovely, of course. But they’re just the icing on the cake. The real treasure is the support, the love, the consistency of knowing I’m surrounded by people who show up.

I’ve always said I collect treasures,  and the best ones are people. I gather the good ones, the genuine ones, and keep them safe in my life’s treasure box. I may not be great at everything, but I do have a gift for choosing good friends. I always have.

So let the world keep its outdated ideas about women tearing each other down.

We’ll be over here building some of the strongest, most beautiful friendships there are..and celebrating each other every chance we get.

“Women are never stronger than when they arm themselves with their friendships.” ~ Marie de Vichy-Chamrond
